Klei is a space to experiment, create culture and share Art. We teach pottery to kids and grown-ups, keep the studio open for makers, and fill our Gallery shelves with pieces made by hand in Nosara. Events, Community and more? ¡Sí gracias!
No experience needed — just curiosity and a willingness to get your hands muddy. We’ll guide every step, from the first lump of clay to the piece you take home.

Every week
This week at Klei
Four classes, a wheel course and time to paint a piece, one happy studio. Choose a day and save your seat online.
Private classes, on your schedule
Handbuilding or wheel, Wednesday to Saturday between 10am and 4pm (outside our Friday and Saturday morning group classes) — you choose the day and the length. From $30 per person / hour.
From mud to mug
How pottery works
01Wedge
Step one is preparing the clay: a piece of Costa Rican soil, wedged with our hands.
02Shape
On the wheel or by hand: pinch, coil, pull and carve until your idea becomes a piece you can hold.
03Bisque fire
After 1–2 weeks, once the piece has dried it goes into the kiln for bisque firing, which turns soft earth into lasting stone.
04Glaze
Time to paint! Add color and texture with our glazes and get creative. They’ll go through firing a second time for a waterproof, food-safe finish. ✨
05Home it
After the firing, your fully functional handmade treasure is ready. Don’t forget to pick it up: pieces left for more than a month will be put up for adoption.
