Sit at the potter’s wheel and take a piece from a lump of clay to a glazed finish:
Materials and firings, for all twelve weeks. Groups of 4 to 5 people, mornings or evenings.

A first wheel class is 2 hours, so there’s time to learn to center and pull. Returning wheel students can choose 1.5 or 2 hours.
Practice time for Klei students
Open Studio is practice time for active Klei students who have taken at least an introduction with us. It’s your own time to build your skills and make pieces. To book hours, register as a member: pay $20 an hour as you go, or save with a plan.

None at all. Our classes are made for beginners and curious people — teachers guide you step by step.
Handbuilding uses your hands and simple tools — pinch, coil and slab — to build pieces. The wheel spins the clay while you shape it. All our weekly classes are handbuilding; to learn the wheel, join our Intro to Wheel course (5 Fridays, next one starts November 6) or the 12-week course. You can also get started on the wheel with a private class, just for you or for a group of up to 5.
Choose 1.5 or 2 hours. A first wheel class is 2 hours, so there’s time to learn to center and pull. For kids’ handbuilding we recommend 1.5 hours. Private classes include clay and the first firing.
Comfortable clothes that can get a little muddy, and short nails if you’re trying the wheel. We have aprons.
After you sculpt a piece, it usually takes 1–2 weeks to dry and be fired. Then you can glaze it, or take it home with its natural terracotta finish. If you glaze it, it needs another 1–2 weeks for a second firing before it’s ready to take home. We’ll let you know when yours is ready.
